What We Breed Toward

The Australian Labradoodle was never meant to be a designer dog. It was created — deliberately, over decades — by two Australian women who wanted something specific: a purpose-bred assistance and therapy dog with a hypoallergenic coat, a sound structure, and a temperament fit for real service work. That original vision is the standard we breed toward.

Sound structure. Form to function — a medium-boned, athletic, correctly-proportioned dog that moves well and holds up over a lifetime.

Steady temperament. Friendly, easy-going, biddable. Not dominant, not timid. Fit for family life, therapy work, or assistance work — the way Angela Cunningham originally intended.

Low to non-shedding fleece coat. Allergy-friendly, easy-care, and free of the shedding issues that have crept into poorly-bred lines.

Intuitive connection with people. The trait Beverley Manners described as "empathetic to humans" — the reason this breed became the gold standard for therapy work.

Health you can prove. Full genetic and orthopedic testing on every breeding dog, because a healthy dog is the whole point.

Genetic diversity. Careful, considered pairings — never breeding for popularity, never breeding too close. Every pairing chosen to strengthen the next generation.

Findings requiring thoughtful pairing:

• PRCD-PRA: Carrier (P/N). One copy of the variant. Fifi will only be paired with mates tested Clear (N/N) for prcd-PRA. Under responsible-breeding standards, carrier × clear pairings cannot produce affected puppies.
• Copper Toxicosis (ATP7B): Positive / ATP7A: Negative. Managed through mate selection, prioritizing ATP7B-negative studs, and — where appropriate — routine hepatic monitoring for offspring.
• CDDY / IVDD (research-only classification): Negative for the CFA18 short-limb variant; homozygous for the CFA12 variant. This is a research marker, not a clinical diagnosis, and is factored into pairing decisions.

DNA parentage panel on file with Orivet (case #25A169797) for positive identification of any offspring.

Scheduled prior to first breeding: OFA cardiac auscultation, OFA patella evaluation, and CAER eye exam by a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist.
